What is black masterbatch?

Black masterbatch is a concentrate of carbon black pigment dispersed in a carrier resin. Added to the base polymer at typically 1–4% during processing, it gives plastics a uniform black color, opacity and UV protection, with cleaner handling and better dispersion than raw carbon black powder.

The right series depends on three things: the carrier, which must be compatible with your base resin; the carbon black content and type, which set blackness, jetness and cost; and the process and end use, from thin blown film to thick-walled pipe or engineering-plastic housings.

Quality & Testing

The tests we run in our own laboratory to control quality and consistency.

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI)Checks flow behaviour so the masterbatch suits your base resin and process.
  • Color MeasurementInstrumental comparison of color and blackness against the approved standard.
  • Density TestConfirms formulation and filler level from batch to batch.
  • Ash ContentMeasures the inorganic content, including filler, of each batch.
  • Application TestingTrial film, molding or extrusion runs to check dispersion and appearance in use.

Black masterbatch FAQ

How much black masterbatch should I add?

Typical addition is 1–4%, depending on the carbon black content of the grade, the opacity you need, the base resin and the wall or film thickness. Higher-loading grades reach full opacity at a lower addition rate.

What carbon black content do I need?

Higher content means a lower addition rate and usually a lower cost per finished kilogram, while lower-content grades meter more evenly at small dosing. Across our series, content runs from 8% to 50%; each series card above shows its range.

Can black masterbatch be used with recycled plastics?

Yes. The rPE and Y-Series grades use recycled carriers and are designed for recycled or blended PE, and standard grades also work in recycled PE. Trial the grade in your own material, as recycled feedstock varies.

Do you provide test reports and samples?

Samples and TDS are available for the grades you are evaluating. Selected grades may have supporting test reports, including RoHS documentation — ask us which reports apply to the grade you need.
