Black Masterbatch vs Color Masterbatch: How to Choose

Black and color masterbatch granules side by side

Black masterbatch is built around carbon black pigment. It delivers deep jet-black color, high opacity and excellent UV protection, which is why it dominates pipe, film, cable and outdoor applications.

Color masterbatch uses organic and inorganic pigments dispersed in a resin carrier, matched to a target Pantone or RAL reference. It is specified when appearance and brand color are the priority.

The decision is rarely either/or. Many products use a black grade for the structural part and a color grade for visible components. The key is matching the carrier resin and dispersing the pigment well enough to hold color batch after batch.

For black, look at carbon black type (ISAF/HAF/HCB) and CB content. For color, the work is in color matching and pigment selection — always approve a physical sample before production.
